Cunning Theatre Layout at St George’s West

I have to hand it to the team at St George’s West; one of the Assembly Rooms venues for this year. The theatre space in the converted church has only one main door into the auditorium. And the great thing about it is that it opens up on the stage.

Atually, after thinking about this, I’m not so sure that it is a good idea. First of all, while it means there aren’t going to be any late arrivals, it also means that there’s no nipping out if you need to go to the toilet - or do the ultimate Fringe review and walk out of the show. Unless you feel like going straight over the stage; and even with the diminishing British reserve, that’s unlikely to happen.

My brain says it’s probably the only way the venue can work, but the devious part of me is thinking it’s a great way to placate the audiences!
