[Review] - Nick Mohammed

Nick Mohammed - The Forer Factor

A one man character sketch show, Nick Mohammed begins The Forer Factor by miming — somewhat poorly — to a pre-recorded audio monologue track before introducing the audience to a variety of his live characters. The namesake of Nick Mohammed’s performance is not fully explored and seems an afterthought to the performance as a whole. While he does not lack enthusiasm or projection, each individual character study fails to retain a consistency of development. He clearly knows his material well and has no trouble jumping between personalities, but the more enjoyable performance moments occur when he says nothing at all, but rather reacts to a eclectic mix of sounds played over the PA. Nothing in his performance is particularly new and though amateurish in general, Nick Mohammed has a few minutes of greatness sprinkled throughout his time on stage. Stick with it to see his unique ventriloquist segment and stay to the end for possibly the best of his act — a music conductor. All of the characters are quite different from each other, but most are fairly forgettable. (Thank goodness I take notes.).

Nick Mohammed has enough enthusiasm and expression to pull off a much better show. I didn’t enjoy all of The Forer Factor, but the parts I did like give me hope that Nick Mohammed has enough promise to pull off a much better and tighter show next year.
