[Review] Some Paintings of Life by Leif Sylvester
You get to the gallery and the first impression is of a quiet and nice neighbourhood. Then you enter. Up to the first floor you are immediately hit by the bright, lively and simplistic paintings of Leif Sylvester, a Danish painter and all round artist. It is indeed a very fitting exhibition for a festival, and your mood is immediately turned up a few notches.
Not all paintings are of equally joyful themes, but you realize even a telling to, as portrayed in one painting, and the theme of the painting named “Teacher Torture”, are manageable when presented like this: Dots, lines, stripes, checks, pastels, black, drips and precise lines – most on every painting too – makes for a new experience all of Sylvester’s making.
Combined with some skilfully crafted pottery two artists (one young award winning Marco Friis) in the entrance hall, it’s well worth the trip that wee bit away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
