Some of the Thinking Behind the 2006 Fringe Cast
Pre-prodcution on the Edinburgh Fringe Podcast is going on right now, and it’s a bit more involved than most of the other podcasts I do. The main thing that holds the Fringe podcast together may be the host of the show, but most of you will be listening for the people that I’ll be interviewing. ANd this is where the planning can make all the difference.
Last year, most of the interviews were done with the performers after a show. And while it meant the show was fresh in my mind, it probably wasn’t as fair on the performer as I could make it. There were also a lot of last minute changes, cancellations and delays - which isn’t good all round.
This year, I’m planning it a bit differently. The rule of thumb will be that all interviews will be done in the morning periond (roughly 10am to about 2 or 3pm), then I’ll grab a late lunch, and spend the rest of the day going round shows, reviewing the acts, and generally picking up the buzz and trying to find ‘the next reasonably big thing.’
And one of the reasons that this is possible is because the Edinburgh Fringe Podcast has dedicated recording studio space for the duration of the Fringe. Leith FM will be acting both as an interview base, but many of the volunteers are coming out to help with the reviews as well!
