[Press Release] Your Daily Podcast from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Is Here.

Daily Podcast marks a first for Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The Podcast Network launches first independent audio coverage of the Fringe

Edinburgh, August 2, 2005: - Ewan Spence and The Podcast Network have launched The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Podcast - http://edinburghfringe.thepodcastnetwork.com/ - an internet based talk show reporting on the world’s largest festival. The show, delivered directly to people’s computers, iPods, phones and MP3 players, will be available daily from August 8th throughout the Festival. A Fringe Preview show was aired on Monday 1st August, and is already gathering critical acclaim from listeners around the world.

Fans of the Edinburgh Fringe, no matter where they are, will be able to see and hear what’s going on in Scotland’s capital in August. With a team of dedicated reviewers, interviews galore, and a dash of magic, the Fringe Podcast gives people at the Fringe a backstage pass in their pocket that they can listen to whenever and wherever they are. And if they’re not at the Fringe, they can find out just what they’re missing, as The Podcast Network team takes you to the performances and artists that everyone wants to get to.

“The Edinburgh Fringe Podcast is a unique service for people attending the Fringe,” says Spence. “Everyone we have spoken to, from performers and venues, to media analysts and listeners is incredibly excited about this global, yet local, Edinburgh Fringe Podcast. We have been given an unprecedented level of support from those involved in the Fringe for what is, essentially, a brand new media venture. I’m confident that as well as providing an invaluable resource for visitors to the Fringe, Podcast Network listeners from as far afield as South Africa, Iraq, North Korea, Hawaii and throughout the world , can now enjoy the best of the Fringe every day.”

Alongside the daily audio content, the Edinburgh Fringe website will carry constantly updated news and photos from the Fringe, be it surprise performances, the wacky publicity stunts the Fringe is famous for, show reviews, profiles and interviews with performers. With the rise of camera phones, the Podcast Network team can snap pictures and have them published on the Edinburgh Fringe Podcast website in a matter of seconds through a partnership with Moblog.co.uk.

“What the Edinburgh Fringe podcast is showing is that through an integrated attitude to reporting, with immediacy at its core, journalism may never be the same,” says Alfie Dennen, of Moblog.co.uk. “Being able to marry the audio from a podcast to images and video captured with a mobile phone makes the experience that much more engaging, and give us all a sense of what it’s like at the Fringe right now.”

Booming growth in demand for innovative audio programming has resulted in startling expansion for new media company The Podcast Network. Launched mid-February to capitalise on a global explosion of portable audio players such as the iPod, the month of July saw the network deliver a quarter of a million shows to one hundred thousand listeners. That’s one show downloaded every eleven seconds.

“I think Ewan’s Edinburgh Fringe Podcast for The Podcast Network is a great example of how an emerging technology, designed initially by geeks and for geeks, can benefit the wider community. They are hungry for quality free content that they can listen to when, and where they want.” says Mick Stanic, Co-Founder of The Podcast Network. “This show is a great example of Generation C, which is all about people being able to create and distribute compelling content to like minded individuals around the world.”

The first Edinburgh Fringe Podcast is available now at http://edinburghfringe.thepodcastnetwork.com/ and the daily shows start on August 8th, and continue through the Fringe until August 27th.
