The Edinburgh Fringe Podcast 2005 - #001

The Edinburgh Fringe 2005 Show #001 (MP3 – 11.3MB – 38min 34sec)
LISTEN HERE

Welcome to the first podcast for the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Covering the largest Arts Festival in the world, the Edinburgh Fringe Podcast is going to put you right in the middle of all the best clubs, acts, street performers, reviews and news from the Fringe.

From next Monday (8th August) we’ll be switching over to a daily podcast of roughly 30 minutes, going live at around 11am UK time. So this show is our “Official Preview Show,” where I talk to to some of the people on the ground, set the scene for this mammoth podcast experience, and find out more about one of Edinburgh’s comedy clubs.

On this show…

Tommy Sheppard - The Stand.
Owner of The Stand, Edinburgh’s all year round comedy club, Tommy took time out from getting ready for The Fringe to talk to me about The Stand. Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, The Stand provides a strong platform for Scottish based comedians to learn their trade, entertain the country, and make a living. The Fringe is a high point of their program, but as well as covering that Tommy looks back at the origins of the club, how people can get started in stand up, the things he would change about the Fringe, and the number of flyers and leaflets The Stand have printed up for August.

Ian Kendall - Ian Kendall’s Magic Show.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to perfrom at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Fringe Podcast can’t put you on stage, but we can do the next bext thing. Ian Kendall is a Fringe veteran, and we’re going to be talking to him throughout the Fringe to find out how things are going with his show. Here’s a bit of background about Ian, his show, and why he continues to do The Fringe.

Jody Armstrong - On a flying visit to Edinburgh.
You come to Edinburgh to see some comedy, find a good place to stay and what happens when you get to the show? Well, if you’re very unlucky (as Jody was), one of the acts in the bill will die a horrible death. What is it like to be in the audience? I chat to Jody about the sinking feeling in the crowd, and how the rest of the night was saved by the compere.
